ROUSSET, FRANCE, April 12th, 2018 – Demand for contactless, dual interface cards and documents has never been growing so fast. A combination of factors leads smart card and passport manufacturers to prepare for an increasing demand in both the payment and identity segments. Smart Packaging Solutions (SPS) remains by their side to ensure they will keep on benefitting from the company’s unique technology and be able to propose the cards and ID documents needed by the market.
Smart Packaging Solutions (SPS) has already achieved the first step in its production capacity ramp-up plan. The company has invested in new production equipment and is improving its process flow with roll to roll operation to ensure the delivery of larger quantities while keeping with its established records in terms of reliability and customer service. At the same time, SPS is making its production organization evolve and proposing its products and services to its customers thanks to the combination of its own manufacturing plant in Rousset, France, with the ones of its network of qualified manufacturing partners in different geographies. The combination between in-house production with SPS worldwide network of qualified manufacturing partners also allows to improve contingency plans and ensure the supply of products to the card manufacturers will remain uninterrupted whatever the circumstances.
Philippe Patrice, SPS CEO declares: “Thanks to all actions we have achieved over the last two years, we are now reaching a 300 million units production capacity. Now, we are launching the second phase of the plan that will allow us to increase steadily our production capacity and to double it again by year 2020.”
The demand growth in the banking segment is fueled by the switch from contact cards to dual interface cards especially in the Americas region, triggered by a mandate issued by both Visa and Mastercard, and supported by card issuers who recognize the advantages of dual interface cards to boost their card-based transactions.
In the identity segment, demand is raising thanks to the deployment of major ID programs and the always-expanding number of countries adopting ePassports.
